Over the Edge of the World by Laurence Bergreen is a powerful page turner of the true story of what Magellan and his crew went through just to find nutmeg and cinnamon.

Many of the men brought back to life in Bergreens book are worthy of books just on their own by: 2. Over the Edge of the World tells the story, in detail, of Magellan's voyage around the world. It also tells, in detail, the history of everything associated with Magellan and his trip.

I enjoyed the read, although at times I wished Over the Edge of the World book author would move the story ahead rather than digress to look at the history of everything/5. Pye’s book is full of both. In “The Edge of the World,” Pye concentrates on a murky era — the Middle Ages — and on a region of Europe that seems always to have been blanketed in mist Author: Russell Shorto. In Bergreen's hands, however, [Over the Edge of the World is] a great adventure story, complete with enough plot elements—political intrigue, sexual adventurism, travelogue—to keep anyone happy, even those of us with no interest in navigation.
